- The What Works Clearinghouse
Established by the Department of Education to provide scientific evidence of what works in education. Although, there is much more empirical evidence available on K-12, adult literacy is one of the What Works Clearinghouse topic areas

(NCSALL)Through rigorous, high quality research NCSALL seeks to increase knowledge and support for the use of research in adult literacy education

NCAL aims to improve understanding of youth and adult learning, foster innovation increase effectiveness in youth, adult basic education, and literacy work, expand access to information, and build capacity for literacy and basic skills service provision.
- Adult Literacy Research Network
Using $18.5 million in grants the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL), US Department of Education, and National Institutes of Health fund six research projects, one focused on health and literacy. All six will employ experimental or quasi-experimental designs.
