Fact Books, Readers and Stories

This section includes a broad range of health education materials. Some are small fact books of six pages giving basic information. Others are manuals of 100 pages or more giving more comprehensive information. A wide variety of health topics are represented. If you are looking for information on a health topic for a specific audience, please look through the Bibliographies and Resource Guides and Websites sections for additional listings of resources.

We chose materials that target different cultural groups and are either easy-to-read or available in languages other than English. The descriptions say in which languages the material is available and comment on the reading level in English. We use the term "very easy-to-read" to refer to a text written in the simplest language, most appropriate for someone with very limited English literacy. The term "moderately easy-to-read" describes text that contains some higher level vocabulary and grammar constructions. We also comment on type size and amount of pictures and white space.
