Multilingual Health Education Net

British Columbia Ministry of Health; Department of Canadian Heritage; Vancouver Foundation; and Partner Agencies
http://www.multilingual-health-education.net/
This site grew out of a demonstration project called Translated Materials in HealthCare, whose goal was to improve the standards and procedures for translating patient education materials. It is funded by the British Columbia Ministry of Health; the Department of Canadian Heritage; the Vancouver Foundation; and Partner Agencies. From the home page you can go to sections about the background, standards, other resources, feedback, or a bulletin board. You can also find listings of translated health materials by health category, agency, or language. When you find a specific material, you can download the whole text, or find contact information for the agency that developed the brochure. The languages available are: Chinese, Farsi (Persian), Hindi, Korean, Somali, Vietnamese, English, French, Italian, Punjabi, and Spanish. The offerings include mostly short brochures about a wide variety of specific medical conditions and procedures. Each listing tells the reading level in the English translation. For the non-English translations, it tells whether it has been proofread by a professional translator, tested with members of the target population, reviewed by a health care practitioner, and more.
KEYWORDS: Asian Americans, Latin Americans
